MOUNT PROSPECT, IL (February 6, 2014) – Dave McGillivray has spent most of his life going the extra mile to motivate and inspire others. He completed a fundraising run across the United States in 1978 and is the race director of one of the world’s most prestigious events, the Boston Marathon.

McGillivray will share these and other stories at the National Sporting Goods Association’s 50th Management Conference and 16th Team Dealer Summit in Indian Wells, Calif. McGillivray will speak during the All-Star Awards Luncheon on Monday, April 28.

“We are thrilled to include a highly sought-after speaker in Dave McGillivray to this year’s Management Conference lineup,” said NSGA President and CEO Matt Carlson. “Dave’s background and ability to provide a motivational message will have a tremendous impact on our attendees.”

McGillivray was 23 years old when he ran 3,452 miles in 80 days from Medford, Ore., to Medford, Mass., to raise thousands of dollars for the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He has been in charge of the Boston Marathon the last 23 years and one Boston-area media account said McGillivray “Is at the epicenter of #BostonStrong,” the phrase that captured the spirit and resolve of the victims, first responders and other heroes who handled last year’s tragic bombings at the finish line of the race.

McGillivray also added an inspirational chapter to his story in the way he has battled the heart disease he was diagnosed with in the fall.
