MOUNT PROSPECT, ILLINOIS (June 1, 2016) – Sugar Ray Leonard delivered a championship presentation at the National Sporting Goods Association’s 52nd Annual Management Conference and 18th Annual Team Dealer Summit. His anecdotes about preparing, competing and survival resonated with conference attendees. Leonard, who trained at the event’s host facility nearly 30 years ago, provided an inspirational start to the industry leading event.

Olympic boxer Leonard and CBS Sports Broadcaster Greg Gumbel set the tone for educational sessions covering topics such as the future of retail, using social media to promote your business, supplier/dealer relationships, youth sports participation and more. Sessions were held for the collective group, as well as breakouts geared toward specific industry segments. As an example, the Team Dealer Summit, sponsored by Mueller Sports Medicine and Russell Athletic, included education specifically geared toward the dealer community.

The event, which had not been held in Hilton Head since 2004, also featured both formal and informal networking opportunities for attendees to foster new relationships and connect with long-time associates. Some of the featured events providing an opportunity to connect included a Sunday evening reception with the back-drop of the Atlantic Ocean sponsored by SPS Commerce, a Monday evening Low Country themed reception sponsored by Payment Alliance International, and the Sporting Goods Industry Hall of Fame reception and dinner sponsored by Mizuno and Synchrony Financial.

“The location, education and networking at this year’s event were a winning combination, resulting in higher attendance and more retailers/dealers enjoying the event,” said NSGA President & CEO Matt Carlson. “NSGA’s goal in producing this event is to provide our attendees with knowledge, information and stronger relationships that help them build business throughout the year.”

The NSGA INNOVATIONS ARENA, in its second year, gave companies dedicated time to showcase new sporting goods products to industry executives. Monday’s walking lunch in the INNOVATIONS ARENA provided devoted time for attendees, outside of other breaks, to visit exhibitors.

NSGA appreciates the support of all of this year’s event sponsors. Platinum sponsors included Payment Alliance International, SPS Commerce and Stahls. Mueller Sports Medicine and Russell Athletic sponsored the Team Dealer Summit. Other Management Conference sponsors include – ASG-Southware, Holloway Sportswear, LYONSCG, ONU ONE, Opto International, OrderMyGear, Rawlings, SummerSkates, The Savantis Group, Wilson Sporting Goods, Gared, D&H Distributing, Ripon Athletic, Twin City Knitting, Markwort Sporting Goods, Gildan, Image Apparel Solutions, and Formula4Media.
