MOUNT PROSPECT, IL (Feb. 8, 2016) – One of boxing's most beloved and successful fighters, Sugar Ray Leonard will launch NSGA’s 52nd Annual Management Conference & 18th Annual Team Dealer Summit at 8:00 a.m., on May 23, 2016 at the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa in Hilton Head Island, SC. The premiere sporting goods industry event runs May 22-25, 2016.
Leonard will illustrate the steps and sacrifices it took to achieve his Olympic gold medal and professional boxing dreams. He will share stories about his journey from athlete to entrepreneur, and the qualities he believes help achieve greatness not only in the ring, but also in the business world.

Having learned to box at the early age of 14, Leonard’s illustrious career includes three National Golden Gloves titles, two Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) championships and the 1975 Pan-American Games crown. After winning a gold medal in Montreal’s 1976 Olympic Games, Leonard became a professional boxer to help defer medical bills from his father’s illness. His first victory sparked a storied career, including some of the most memorable fights in history.
His professional career spanned 20 years earning world titles in the welterweight, junior middleweight, super middleweight and light heavyweight divisions. Leonard was the first boxer to win world titles in five different weight classes.
Leonard’s personal experience and boxing career provides inspiration to help fund research to combat type 1 and 2 diabetes and obesity prevention. For many years, he has been the international chairman of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation “Walk for a Cure.” In 2009, Leonard and his wife Bernadette created the Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation and support the life-changing programs at the Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
