retail organizations release 2018 holiday sales growth forecasts

MOUNT PROSPECT, ILLINOIS (October 11, 2018) - With the holiday season quickly approaching, NSGA has reviewed the holiday sales growth forecasts released by multiple organizations.

RetailNext, Inc., a retail analytics company, forecasted an increase of 4 to 4.5 percent in November and December retail sales vs. a year ago, driven largely by a 15 percent increase in year-over-year sales through digital channels.

The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) is predicting a 4.5 percent year-over-year growth in retail sales this holiday season. The ICSC also noted that 84 percent of shoppers plan to visit a mall or shopping center throughout the holidays.

The National Retail Federation recently announced its prediction that projected sales in November and December to increase between 4.3 percent and 4.8 percent vs. last year. This year’s forecast would exceed the average annual increase of 3.9 percent during the past five years.
