Stock and Field Files for Bankruptcy

Corporate • January 10, 2021

EAGAN, MINNESOTA (January 10, 2021) – Stock & Field, a Midwest retailer which includes outdoors gear in its product assortment, filed for bankruptcy. The 57-year-old business, which was founded as Big R in Watseka, Illinois, is holding liquidation sales at its 25 stores in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Big R rebranded as Stock & Field in July 2019. Stock & Field carries equipment for shooting sports, hunting, camping, boating and fishing and firearms. It has also carried Under Armour apparel.

“There have been many challenges in 2020 and Stock & Field was not immune to them,” said Matthew Whebbe, Chairman & CEO, in a statement on the company’s website. “Stock & Field has partnered with providers of new merchandise and will be selling items at massive discounts in the coming weeks. Even (and especially) in a pandemic, we believe the customer should be able to get some wins.

“We’d like to thank our fantastic employees, our loyal customers and especially the rural communities we partnered with for so many years. We hope to reopen stores at some point in the future, but for now, please come in, say hello to your favorite employee and enjoy the ridiculously low prices. This won’t last for long.”
